Ali d'Oro makes wafer cones, mini cones and wafer decorations for artisan gelato shops and for supermarkets, at its plant in the San Nicolò a Tordino industrial area of Teramo, in Abruzzo. The business grew out of the Aquila d'Oro bar that Giovanni Di Giosia ran in central Teramo from 1946; the family now runs it in its third generation. Production moved to the current site in 1975, when automatic cone machines replaced hand-made work. The gelato shop range includes cigarette wafers, the Biki edible wafer cup and millefoglie fans that can carry a shop's own name and logo. A retail line packs cones, wafer shells and decorations in consumer boxes.
